Expert expects faster coronavirus tests soon
Have I been infected or not? You can only determine whether someone has contracted the corona virus with a test. But because of the overloading of the laboratories, there are usually long waiting times. This could change quickly. An expert is expecting faster corona virus tests soon.
Long lines in the coronavirus test centers. And it usually takes too much time until the result is there. A virologist is now hoping that something will change soon.
Developed faster tests
Frankfurt virologist Sandra Ciesek expects easier and faster tests for the corona virus this month. "As for the tests, the situation will ease soon," said Ciesek.
Ciesek is one of the leading researchers for Sars-CoV-2 in Germany and works at the clinic of the Goethe University in Frankfurt. The scientist is very hopeful that there will be tests in the coming weeks that do not require such demanding laboratory work.
Various companies had developed faster tests that might still come on the market in March or April - for example, a system "with which, for example, you can get a test result in the emergency room in about 90 minutes".
Results within hours
A new rapid test for Sars-CoV-2 has already been approved in the USA. According to the manufacturer Cepheid, it should detect an infection within 45 minutes.
A statement from the drug agency FDA said that the test enables results to be obtained "within hours". Cepheid plans to deliver the tests next week. It is designed for a diagnostic device from the same manufacturer. (ad; source: dpa)
