Celery is said to help you lose weight and prevent diseases

When you lose weight, the calorie intake is reduced depending on the diet plan. Only with a lack of food intake and a lot of exercise can weight loss be achieved with overweight. It is advisable to eat foods rich in vitamins and minerals. Because celery contains a lot of potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium, but also vitamin E, provitamin A, phytochemicals and essential oils. Some believe that celery is a so-called “negative calorie” food. A study examined whether this is true.

Local superfood

Celery is the domestic superfood. Quite a few swear by the healing and health-promoting effects of celery juice. Not everyone likes the taste of the drink, but what powers are really in the celery mix.

Celery: Ultimate Superfood Drink for Health?

Above all, the American author Anthony William has ensured that freshly squeezed celery juice is regarded by many as the "ultimate superfood drink for health". The poison green drink is celebrated on social media as an anti-aging miracle and a cure for high blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome and other diseases.

The juice is said to help you lose weight if you drink half a liter every morning on an empty stomach. However, there is no scientific evidence for this.

Prevent diseases with fruits and vegetables

The idea of preventing diseases with lots of fruits and vegetables is not new. "So far, however, no single type of vegetable has ensured that we are beautiful, rich and 120 years old," said Harald Seitz, nutritionist from the Federal Center for Nutrition (BZfE), in a statement.

“It is a healthy lifestyle with an overall balanced diet that keeps the body fit and promotes well-being. Of course, a glass of celery juice can also help occasionally if you like it, ”explains the expert.

Interesting in this context is a study by scientists from the University of Alabama about which the “Academy of Nutrition & Dietics” reported a few months ago. The researchers have shown that eating celery and other supposedly negative-calorie foods - contrary to what is often claimed - does not burn more calories during digestion than is delivered.

Different uses

As the BZfE explains, green celery is a Mediterranean vegetable that is served much more frequently in the USA than in Germany.

The fleshy petioles have a specific taste of their own and taste, for example, raw with a dip or cut into small pieces in a salad. Pasta sauces, soups and stews also have a mildly spicy note with celery.

Processing is very easy: simply cut off the roots and clean the stems under running water. The fibers of the stems can be removed with a knife.

According to the BZfE, the preparation as juice is rather unusual. If you want to try the vegetable drink, cut the sticks into pieces and then process them with a blender or juicer.

The taste can be varied with an apple, cucumber or carrot. For those who do not want to prepare the juice themselves, there are now some finished products available that are offered in the organic or supermarket. However, the fresher the better.

Supply of important nutrients

It is known that celery stalks stimulate digestion and supplies the body with minerals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium, but also vitamin E, provitamin A, phytochemicals and essential oils.

Due to the high water content of over 90 percent, the perennial vegetables contain only few calories (21 kcal per 100 g). When shopping, you should pay attention to quality and only use fresh, crisp sticks. The healthy vegetables should be kept in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator until they are consumed.
