These home remedies help with a beard
Some cultures thought hair on the face was attractive to women, such as in the Ottoman Empire, but nowadays beards are only considered chic by the dwarfs of the fantasy author Terry Pratchett, in which the dwarf women differ from the men in the shape of their beards .

Bearded women

“Bearded women” were questionable attractions at the annual fairs and so-called freak shows. However, these were not women who grew a light fluff on the upper lip, but those who grew strong hair on the face and other parts of the body, which was probably due to an overproduction of male hormones.

Even the so-called "hair people" are not a simple lady beard. Those affected, men and women, rather suffer from hypertrichosis, a genetic disorder in which the hair covers the whole body like a fur, and not only in the chin and mouth area, but also on the forehead and cheeks.

The fight against hair

Whether in Germany or the USA, Turkey or Iran - women try to get rid of the lip fuzz with countless sensible and senseless means. Oriental women also developed such home remedies into art because their black hair fell more on the face than that of blonde Scandinavians.

Causes of a lady beard

Genes are the main cause of a beard. These determine the hormone balance and ensure that not only female hormones but also androgens are released. Every woman has a small proportion of male hormones, but some women are particularly sensitive to their release, so that their skin makes the hair grow stronger.

Pregnancies and menopause

Most of those affected already have a beard as a girl, and it shows more strongly during puberty when the sex hormones are also used to release male hormones, and sometimes pregnancy and the menopause also change the hormonal balance.

A taboo subject

It is a taboo topic that many women talk about with their best friend. That is why there are no solid statistics, but medicine assumes that one in five women will have unwanted hair around their mouth and chin.

Disorders and diseases

When women grow hair on their faces, they usually find it annoying, but it is not a disease. Most of these women are perfectly healthy. The situation is different when a hormonal disorder triggers the beard. The level of androgens is then abnormally high, which can be caused by malfunctions in the organs. A visit to the doctor is necessary in any case, because the beard can now also be a sign of a serious basic illness. A too high level of androgens can also be regulated by hormone therapy, and the beard also disappears.

Very rare, but all the more dangerous is sprouting hair as an indicator of cancer in the ovaries. This leads to the fact that more androgens are released.

Treatment for the beard

If there is no hormone disorder, women have many tools at their disposal. They use depilatory creams, epilators, wax or tweezers. Meanwhile, Iranians know a natural remedy that also cares for the skin.

Oats, honey and lemon

They take honey, lemon juice and oatmeal. As a result, they provide your skin with vitamins, antioxidants and minerals: oats provide moisture and regulate the pH value, and as a peeling it removes dander; the lemon not only brightens the skin, it also slows hair growth; Honey provides antioxidants and vitamins.

Lady beard shaving?

The easiest way to remove a beard is by shaving. Unfortunately, it has major disadvantages in the face of women. Depending on how fast the hair grows, stubble forms again the next day.

Even more: with dark whiskers, a slight shadow remains even on the smoothly shaved face. The result: The person affected has no beard for the moment, but looks like a freshly shaved man.

Female beard plucking

Women who shave their ladies' beards, at least like men, have to do this every day. An alternative is epilation. The hair is pulled out with the root. The advantage is that the hair is not cut off, but removed, and no hair can sprout from removed hair roots. The downside is that epilation is painful.

If only individual hairs sprout, then you can pluck them individually with tweezers. To do this, tighten the skin, fix the hair with tweezers that are not too wide and pull it out with a short jerk.

Thread technique at Frauenbart

The thread technique lends itself to removing several hairs at the same time. You pull a circle of threads, put it around the corresponding hair roots and pull it out of the skin. This technique requires some practice.

The spiral works on a similar principle, but is suitable for beginners. You can buy such a spiral from a beautician or drug store. There is a coil spring in the middle and there are two handles on the outside that hold the coil. Bend the spiral into a U and place it where you want to remove the hair. Then they pull the spiral over the skin.

Epilator at Damenbart

An epilator is ideal for a strong lady beard. There are different versions. Epilation, however, is more painful on the upper lip than the previous techniques.

You can buy cold wax strips in the drugstore that are very easy to use. All you have to do is press the strips into the appropriate places and then pull them off.

Hot wax is more effective, but hurts a little more. To do this, they melt hot wax balls into a mass and apply them, still soft and warm to the skin. There they let the wax dry for about ten minutes and then remove it. The advantage: you pull out a lot of hair at once.

Instead of wax, you can also mix sugar with lemon juice and boil both together. If the hot mass is tough, then use it like hot wax, so apply it warm to the skin, let it cool and then peel it off.

Wax and sugar remove the hair from the roots, and it takes about a month before they grow back and you have to repeat the procedure.

Do home remedies help?

There is no such thing as a "miracle cure for a beard. All methods that can be used at home are tedious, sometimes painful and unsatisfactory in the long run. Many women therefore consult a professional dermatologist or go to the beauty salon.

Professional treatment

Annoying body hair can now be removed permanently with light therapy, lasers and electrical epilators. Such treatment has to be repeated more often in the beginning and costs around 20-25 euros per appointment, and the health insurance does not pay, but those affected have long-term rest. You should plan around 150.00 euros for the entire treatment.

The problem with all home remedies is that most regrowing hair is invisible. You have not yet broken through the skin surface. After the first treatments in a dermatological practice, even more hair sprouts than before, because those hidden under the skin are no longer blocked by the visible ones.

From session to session, the specialist now removes the following hair and roots, until after approximately seven sessions all roots have been completely removed. (Dr. Utz Anhalt)
