Manufacturer recalls blue cheese for Salmonella

The company SOCIETE from France has started a recall for the Roquefort AOP product. According to the company, salmonella was found in the blue cheese. In some people, these bacteria can lead to serious health problems.

Salmonella detected

The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety provides information on the recall of several product batches of the French raw milk soft cheese Roquefort AOP of the brand "SOCIÉTÉ" on its portal "lebensmittelwarnung.de". According to the manufacturer, salmonella was found in the blue cheese. A health risk cannot be ruled out.

Do not eat affected cheese

Cheeses with the packaging sizes 25 grams and 200 grams of the batches 3178B (best before date (best before) 09/15/19), 3170B (best before 12/16/19) and 8171A (best before 09/13/19) are affected by the recall.

According to the information, the goods were sold between July 9 and August 2.

Possible contaminated products have meanwhile been taken off the market.

The manufacturer advises customers not to consume the affected products and to return them instead.

Consult a doctor if symptoms occur

"Salmonella are bacteria (zoonotic pathogens) that cause disease symptoms in humans and animals," the Swiss Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs wrote on its website.

"In humans, fever and indigestion such as vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain can occur 6 to 72 hours after consumption," said the experts.

According to the German Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA), infants, toddlers, seniors and people with a weakened immune system are particularly at risk. These groups of people may experience longer and more severe illnesses.

Anyone who has eaten the product affected by the recall is asked to consult a doctor if the symptoms mentioned occur. (ad)
