The Gesellschaft für Biofaktoren e.V. emphasizes the importance of magnesium supply for blood pressure. Studies showed that a significant proportion of high blood pressure patients suffer from a magnesium deficiency, which promotes vasoconstriction and thus increases blood pressure, the experts explained. Since high blood pressure is the main risk factor for heart and vascular diseases, an adequate supply of magnesium to those affected could significantly reduce their health risk, according to the Society for Biofactors.

Magnesium supplements can reduce blood pressure

The renowned hypertension specialist Prof. Dr. Klaus Kisters, chief physician at Medical Clinic I at St. Anna Hospital in Herne, explicitly referred to the importance of magnesium supply for blood pressure in a series of lectures by the Society for Biofactors.

According to the expert, the increased blood pressure values ​​could often already be normalized by changing one's lifestyle and taking magnesium supplements. According to the hypertension specialist, taking corresponding preparations can have a positive effect on both borderline and manifest hypertension. As the expert for applied pharmacology and clinical pharmacotherapy from the Scientific Advisory Board of the Society for Biofactors, Prof. Joachim Schmidt, specialist for pharmacology from Dresden, added, magnesium deficiency also favors cardiovascular risk factors such as "vascular-damaging inflammation, diabetes and cardiac arrhythmias."

Magnesium deficiency is a significant health risk
Numerous "epidemiological studies have shown convincingly that magnesium deficiency leads to an increased risk of heart and vascular diseases," emphasized the specialist in pharmacology on behalf of the Society for Biofactors. A simple change in diet is usually not enough to remedy the magnesium deficiency, Prof. Schmidt continues.

The expert recommends preparations made from special magnesium compounds, whereby the so-called magnesium orotate is of “clinically relevant specialty”, since the orotic acid it contains also has heart-protecting properties. According to the Society for Biofactors, this “vitamin-like substance” promotes heart health. "Clinical studies show that this combination improves the resistance and performance of the endangered and previously damaged heart, stabilizes the heart rhythm and also lowers high blood pressure," emphasized Prof. Schmidt.

A magnesium deficiency can be identified by symptoms such as muscle tremors, twitching, calf cramps, tension, cramping, headaches, heart stumbling, chest tightness, brittle fingernails, tooth decay and sleep disorders.
